one in, one out
ok first things first. VIBRAM’S v-souls are back in stock. remember, say it with me: foot health is sexy.
so as it turns out, there is such a thing as being too lucky at a vintage fair. because here’s the thing with vintage — i believe these things are truly and deeply fated. if you arrive open to receive, what’s meant for you will reveal itself, and so, if you let it go, it will come back to you if it’s meant to be yours. the predicament is: once it does find you, it’s nearly impossible to walk away…because, alas, there’s only one. this is when i get swept up in the romance of the vintage hunt and gather all lose all sight of reality and budgeting. in order to ground in those moments, opt into“the game”—the game is taking a photo, google reverse image searching and making sure that you’re getting something at a great price. then you can walk away some- hundred dollars over budget feeling good about your purchase. like a good game of backgammon, a lil’ bit of luck and lil’ bit of strategy. ◡̈
«what I’m on» the look below is what I’m going for as my comfortable “summer in France / West Hollywood” look. i went to the vintage fair on the hunt for mini Edwardian dresses and with no luck, I opted, instead, to purchase floor length ones to be tailored.»
then there’s Zara — when it’s good, it’s really good —but it often leaves you in a different kind of predicament: à la, if the zipper snags, is it even worth paying to fix? this is where my love/hate relationship with Zara lives—it doesn’t feel great buying zara, but sure has hell feels good buying 10 items for the price of one thing on Net-a-Porter… sigh.
some vendors i loved at A Current Affair. MERCY VINTAGE, ARCADE, RECESS, CARNY COUTURE, OUTWEST MARKET, NOTCH LA, ZIGGY LOVES.
some clarity from previous stacks.
here is a link to my all -purpose tofu bag.
& here is a screenshot of my Etsy order for my gasp-worthy graduated earrings.
++ these are prada sandals I saw someone else go home with at said vintage fair, (I’m looking for a pair in better condition).
alright, back to what’s good and dandy at Zara.
ZARA HAUL.
another day, another fake bode over-shirt / $99.90
massimo sweater / $140
basic soft sweater / $49.90 (i bought brown and ecru, navy was sold out in my size)
flower mini bucket bag / $69.90
beaded bucket bag / $59.90
im doing everything in my power to avoid shelling out $900 something on the row thong sandals— not sure why this is where I have a hard boundary, but it is (plus havainas are just so classy and classic anyway). but if you want something a step above havianas- these work as a happy alternative (an ode to thongs up top)
embroidered lace triangle bralette and panties
for no reason and every reason: bloomers (size down). that’s right ya’ll, as referenced above, Edwardian/ Victorian is IN. I mean, sincerely, I’ve always been a colonial top woman myself, but PANTALOONS are hot. and everywhere.
i didn’t purchase these, but i’m thinking i just might.
ZARA HOME. zara home is usually a slam dunk, but be careful of spending 6k on a sofa when you can easily buy something vintage that’s cooler and far less!
rectangular doormat now that la is a rainy city
cotton kitchen towel (set of 3)
flower dog toy that looks like brix is bringing me flowers
not sure why i need this iron solar lantern, but i love it
these towels are quite nice (but dont try to rip the tag off without scissors or you will end up in the exact aforementioned predicament, oops).
«one in, one out» for any material item I acquire, one material item is being sold/ given away. good way to keep the energy (and see this is, where you’ll notice, it’s much easier to part ways with Zara than even an unbranded vintage sweater…) food for thought»
